September | Monthly Review
As summer slipped into autumn, September was a defining month for Haar. Read more here.
A Milestone Month: Four AA Rosettes for Haar
This September, Haar achieved one of its proudest moments to date — the award of four AA Rosettes, marking us among the UK’s top dining destinations.
This honour reflects our commitment to culinary innovation, local sourcing, and the craft that defines every service in our St Andrews site. It’s a recognition of the talent and passion of the entire team, from the kitchen to the front of house.
A Rare Catch: The Blue Lobster
In an extraordinary stroke of luck, our fishermen brought in a blue lobster — a natural phenomenon estimated at one in two million.
Its arrival perfectly encapsulated Haar’s philosophy: respect for the sea and a deep appreciation for its rarity and true craftsmanship. Few things could better symbolise the magic of Scottish waters and the inspiration of our dishes.
An Afternoon with the Press
We also welcomed members of the press for an exclusive afternoon review, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into work that defines Haar.
It was a moment to share our story, our ethos, and the dedication that has carried us to where we are today.
Seasonal Highlights: Seafood Ravioli and Tasting Menus
September’s seafood ravioli special quickly became a guest favourite. Handmade pasta encased delicate, ocean-fresh filling, combining indulgence and elegance in equal measure.
Alongside it, our tasting menu evolved with the season — showcasing signature dishes like the Arbroath Smokie with smoked butter and caviar, and our sustainably sourced lobster, prepared in-house with precision and care. Each dish celebrated Scotland’s ingredients at their finest.
Looking Ahead: Autumn, Dunhill, and the Festive Season
As we step into autumn, Haar is preparing for one of St Andrews’ most vibrant times of year. With the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship just around the corner and our festive menus on the horizon, there’s much to look forward to.
Expect elevated wine pairings with bold new flavours and the unmistakable sense of occasion that makes Haar a true celebration of Scottish dining.
5 Star Review of the Month
The food and the service were excellent and the staff so friendly and knowledgeable. The experience started with a wonderful cocktail and interaction with the chef and continued with an outstanding menu of fish and duck. The table had a little message in a bottle with a map of Scotland showing where the ingredients came from. The banana desert was outstanding

Walked in over lunch time and had the chef’s snack experience – absolutely amazing! The food was fantastic and the service was spot on. Kay was wonderful. Highly recommend!

Fantastic, majoring in seafood of delicacy and Scottish provenance. We had a la carte with the tasting menu starter snacks. All were prepared beautifully and tasted delicious. Good, short wine list. Staff were great and friendly. Breakfast worth staying over for. Deducted one star for the steep staircase to the top of the building for our overnight room which was otherwise comfortable and well equipped.

Amazing food and fantastic service.
The lobster was delicious as was everything else.
Lovely setting too, just up the road from The Old Course.

The diddles dropped in for lunch on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
We've been to Haar a few times now and it never fails to disappoint. Big fans of the lobster dish, and again, it was super delicious.
Big shout to the staff who are always helpful but went above and beyond thus time. Poor mrs d was the victim of a bird poo strike seconds before we entered. The staff helped her to the toilet to get cleaned up. And took her jacket away to dry out. Mrs diddle much appreciated this!!

Fabulous dining experience in Haar last night.
Chose the tasting menu with paired classic wine tasting.
First three courses presented at the chefs table.
Each course was delicious, hard to pick a stand out as everything was so good but Arbroath Smokie in a tiny crisp Pastry tartlet was so delicious as was the crab with a bloody Mary gel.
A quirky message in a bottle revealed a map showing how local all the ingredients were.
Layer upon layer of complimentary flavours were present in each dish; beautifully presented by very knowledgeable staff. Service pace was just right, allowing time for each dish to be savoured.
Special mention for the Wagyu beef; it truly did melt in the mouth and Dean's deconstructed ban offensive pie in a nod to granny was a fun dish.
Exceptional dining experience, fabulous staff and surroundings in the heart of St Andrews, just perfect!

We had the lunch tasting menu and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. Each course was beautifully presented, and full of flavour.
The service was just as impressive—attentive, friendly, and professional without being overbearing. The staff made us feel welcomed and ensured everything ran smoothly throughout the meal.

Incredible and most memorable experience!
Staying and dining here was truly an incredible experience. Staff were very accommodating and could not be more welcoming. We had the taster menu and wine pairing to celebrate a special birthday and it was one of the most amazing experiences, the knowledge and skill of the chef was impeccable. Every moment of the night felt so special and the food was out of this world!
Staying overnight was such a delight, the rooms were beautiful with lovely attention to detail. The location was so close to the golf course which was amazing.
I haven’t ever stayed anywhere better, it was truly the most memorable experience and I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Perfect lunch. The food was delicious and the service friendly and efficient. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing on a busy, sunny day in St Andrews.

We were warmly welcomed to Haar and for the first 30 minutes had the restaurant to ourselves.
We had the tasting menu and what an experience it was.
From the 3 'snacks' built in front of us by a very knowledgeable chef, to the sublime dishes that followed, all were excellent.
Stand out for me was the beef shin, absolutely heavenly.
However, as a diehard sweet tooth, I have to mention the desert, which I can safely say, was THE best desert I've ever had.
We've been lucky enough to dine at MOMO at The Met in N.Y. and Haar stands toe to toe with that experience.
An excellent example of good food cooked well.
